Medium ruby; deep, intense, earthy, spicy, cherry and red berry fruit aroma with hints of mocha and baking spices; medium to medium-full body; deep, rich, red fruit flavors with some plushness in the mouthfeel; medium to medium-full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Initially a bit subdued, though developed with airing in the glass. Should benefit from a few more years of bottle aging. Very highly recommended.
Medium-light to medium ruby; attractive, deep, rich, ripe, dark cherry and red berry fruit aroma with hints of forest floor and baking spices; medium body; forward, rich, supple, red fruit flavors with bright acidity and some plushness in the mouthfeel; medium tannin; lingering aftertaste. The forward, rich fruit and excellent balance makes this wine very enjoyable to drink. Very highly recommended.
Fresh and lively, with vibrant, snappy wild berry, black cherry, plum and anise flavors, coating the palate with zesty berry notes and ending with supple, fine-grained tannins.
Medium ruby-purple colored, the 2016 Pinot Noir Parsons' Vineyard gives up compelling notes of warm mulberries, raspberry preserves and freshly crushed black berries with touches of forest floor, star anise and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated in the mouth, it has a firm yet velvety structure and a lively lift to the long finish.
Tart in complex acidity and subtle flavors of strawberry, pomegranate and orange, this is a light-bodied, lightly ripe wine, that's angular and elegant.
2016 PINOT NOIR, EWALD VINEYARD The nose is a lifted, peppery and earthy clay with raspberry, carbon, saline and cranberry. The palate is a crisp red raspberry on entry with subtle bright red fruit and a lean mineral finish.
Pale to medium ruby-purple in color, the 2016 Pinot Noir Van Der Kamp Vineyard is scented of violets, chocolate covered cherries and black raspberries with notions of tilled soil and potpourri. Medium to full-bodied and packed with fragrant black and red fruits, it has a solid frame of fine-grained tannins and great freshness, finishing long and layered.
The 2016 Pinot Noir Lingenfelder Vineyard, from a site in the Russian River, saw 30% stems and 9 months all in neutral oak. This is a slightly lower elevation vineyard and the grapes are Pommard and Marini clones. Supple, polished and seamless, with classic sous bois, currants, and leafy herbs notes, it has moderate acidity and light tannin as well as terrific balance. It’s one of the more finesse-driven wines in the lineup.
Moderately light ruby red color in the glass. Deep, dark fruit aromas including black cherry and blackberry with a hint of freshly turned earth and a bit of floral delight. Velvety in the mouth, with an intensely fruited core of sweet purple and black fruits that are expansive in the mouth and through the finish. There is a subtle petrol note and some astringent tannins on the finish that should ameliorate with more time in bottle.
Oregon: Pinot Still King Even In Hot 2015 and 2014 Vintages Aromas of blueberries, cherries, dried strawberries and hints of oranges. Full body, dense and creamy texture, round tannins and a medium finish. Juicy finish. Drink now. Screw cap.
An addition to the Siduri range, the 2015 Pinot Noir Saralee's Vineyard emerges from an experimental block in this site planted with numerous clones of Pinot, all co-fermented. The aromatic top notes makes a strong first impression. Red-toned fruit, rose petal and mint develop in the glass, while firm, grippy tannins extend the finish. This is another attractive Pinot from Siduri.
Brilliant ruby-red. Displays highly perfumed red berry, cherry-cola and Asian spice scents, along with a subtle mineral flourish that builds in the glass. Sweet and seamless in the mouth, offers deeply pitched red berry liqueur, spicecake and smoky mineral qualities with a touch of smokiness. Very long and appealingly sweet on the finish, where slow-building tannins add framework and gentle grip.
Pale ruby-purple colored, the 2015 Pinot Noir Dierberg Vineyard offers up intense red cherry, crushed cranberry and raspberry notes with hints of lavender, underbrush and dried herbs. Medium-bodied, soft and with a lively backbone, it has a good core of red berry and earth layers, finishing with satisfying persistence.
Bright red cherry and floral notes are accented by the bright, natural acidity in the 2015 Pinot Noir Barbieri Vineyard. Succulent red stone fruits, sweet rose petal, mint, along with silky tannins add to the wine's considerable appeal. This is a gorgeous wine from Siduri and one of the clear standouts in the range.
We are rarely disappointed in Pinots from this comparatively cool-climate vineyard in the southeastern corner of the Russian River Valley regardless of the maker, but there are vintners that show special success and Siduri's Adam Lee definitely ranks with the best. This edition is a full, yet graceful wine that is both extracted and wonderfully light on its feet, and, while bursting with pure fruit, it comes with a sneaky sense of complexity and reach. Its latter-palate turn to firmness and its terrific tactile length are the certain signs that it will impress more with age, and we plan on hiding it away in a corner of the cellar where it cannot be easily reached for four or five years. Two stars.
Medium-light to medium ruby color; attractive, forward, spicy, cherry and raspberry fruit aroma with hints of forest floor; medium to medium-full body; rich, elegantly styled, cherry and red berry fruit flavors with bright acidity and a silky mouthfeel; medium tannin; lingering aftertaste. Developed depth and some complexity as it opened and developed with airing in the glass, making it very approachable, and easy to enjoy now. Very highly recommended.
From a great vintage in Oregon, the 2015 Pinot Noir Chehalem Mountains is a blend of Muirfield, Hawks View, Arbre Vert, and Shaw Mountain fruit, all of which are in the northern part of the region. Made in an ethereal, pretty, lightly textured style, with lots of framboise, rose petal, sappy flowers and herbal nuances, it's medium-bodied, has bright acidity, and is incredibly elegant. This is a Burgundy lover’s Pinot and it should evolve nicely. I was able to taste Adam Lee’s full-lineup for this report, including his Russian River Valley, Sonoma and Oregon releases. It’s a big lineup, but there’s some gorgeous Pinot Noirs here. I’ve listed the wines in the order tasted, starting with Oregon, followed by Sonoma, Russian River Valley, Santa Lucia Highlands and Sta. Rita Hills.
Oregon: Pinot Still King Even In Hot 2015 and 2014 Vintages This pinot noir shows raspberries, cherries and blueberries notes. Medium to full body, velvety and round tannins and a fresh and long finish. I like the tannic tension. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
The longtime cult Pinot house of winemaker Adam Lee, whose vineyard sources range from Willamette Valley to the Santa Rita Hills. Ripe cherry nose; silky with bright berry fruit and racy acidity.
2015 PINOT NOIR, SANTA LUCIA HIGHLANDS The nose is decidedly herb and floral with red berry fruit in the middle. The palate offers a bright and focused red cherry and tobacco in a solid core of well-integrated fruit and acidity. Overall an effortless feel of lightness on the palate, very well done.
The Sonoma Coast was hammered in the spring with bad weather, and yields suffered dramatically. The 2015 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir comes from the Bloomfield and Sonatera Vineyards, from less than two tons per acre. It sports a darker ruby color as well as notes of plums, scorched earth, spice and perfumed flowers. A darker, richer Pinot Noir, it has juicy fruit, lots of character, plenty of lift and good concentration. It also represents a smoking value. A very floral and energetic nose of blueberries and blackberries. Ripe and clear fruit. Full body, polished tannins and a flavorful finish. Bright and linear. Lovely texture. Screw cap. Drink or hold.
Vivid red. Fresh red berry scents are complicated by suggestions of candied rose, star anise and musky earth. Juicy, finely etched raspberry and bitter cherry flavors show very good energy, and blackberry and licorice notes emerge with air. Closes on a spicy note, displaying very good clarity, sneaky tannins and red-fruit-driven persistence.
Pale ruby-purple colored, the 2015 Pinot Noir Hawks View Vineyard has pretty lavender, fragrant earth and garrigue notes over a core of Bing cherries and raspberries. Medium-bodied, fresh, fine and elegant, it offers a great intensity of perfumed red fruit in the mouth with a nice long, earthy finish.
The nose is a forward red fruit, graphite and herb with notes of licorice, cherry and black currant. The palate has immediately ripe saturation, spicy cherry and tobacco with well-defined acidity on the finish.
