Fleshy and fruited, the Upland Pinot Noir is Shane's ripest and darkest-fruited wine from the Gran Moraine estate. It retains its freshness with savoury earth and truffle-driven flavours: Oregon blackberries, dried thyme, and clove.

Good wine, excellent flavour, perhaps a little too firm through the finish but long term it should serve the wine well. Mulberry, undergrowth, pure ripe plums, cloves and smoked meat notes drive a characterful, cool-edged palate with ample light-and-shade.
There’s excellent intensity to the fruit here and a good spread of tannin too. This is hearty fare, done well, though as much as I tried I couldn’t quite get the finish to extend into territory that would warrant higher points. Vanilla, redcurrant, toast, peppercorn and blueberry flavours roll into black olives, smoky bacon and cedar. The flavour profile is classy – and delicious – to say the least.
Intense aromas of spiced apple, pear and river rock jump from the glass on the nose of this wine. The palate carries some weight, with flavors of juicy pear, cinnamon, tangerine and brioche. Plenty of acid balances the structure. This is peak crab cake wine.
There's a nice thread of acidity throughout an otherwise medium-bodied-to-opulently styled expression of rounded red berry, baking spice, and a hint of forest floor earthiness in the 2021 Pinot Noir Unforgettable Estate Vineyard, which finishes awash in grippy, yet refined tannins. Enjoy through 2031.
The heaviest, darkest, and most muscular of the four distinct Pinot Noirs made from the Maggy Hawk estate, the 2022 Pinot Noir Stormin leads with clone 777, exuding beautiful violet and blueberry aromas and flavors and buoyant acidity. The oak is 50% new and, while integrated, a bit more showy on the palate, adding notes of baking spice and toast. Still, this medium-bodied wine, while intense, is also complex and inviting and can easily be laid down for later, through 2032 if not more.
Mouthwatering, intense and generous, with a core of citrus flavors including Sumo orange, lime zest and salted, preserved lemon, plus fresh ginger. Pretty, aromatic notes of orange blossoms and sweetgrass linger on the long finish. Drink now. 5,600 cases made.
This energetic old vine Zin shows aromas of concentrated raspberry, violets, clove and anise on the nose, while the palate brings a savory edge of roasted meats to the concentrated berry flavors on display. The finish lingers with elements of baking spices, sandalwood and the gentle grip of just enough rich tannin for a little aging.

Aromas of tangerine, fresh pear and lemon balm waft from the nose of this vibrant Chardonnay. The palate brings a richer edge of toasted hazelnut, spiced pear and baked brioche, finishing with a wave of bracing Meyer lemon acidity. This is brilliant wine for grilled halibut, corn, or crabcakes.
Sleek and briary yet refined, with handsome flavors of raspberry and huckleberry accented by green peppercorn and roasted sage. Finishes with zesty tannins. Drink now through 2033.
This pét-nat comes from the Maggy Hawk estate vineyard, block 8, with a single clone, 115 Pinot Noir. The fruit was intended for a still-white Pinot Noir, so the juice was gently pressed from the grapes before being transferred into a small stainless steel tank, where it could ferment spontaneously with ambient yeast. The fermentation was stopped before going fully dry. With aromas of peach ring candies, it's very peachy and pleasing on the palate, with candied apricot, white peach pastry cream, and a brilliant minerality that lifts the finish.
Deep and enticing spiced plum aromas swirl on the nose of this wine, giving way to black cherry, blackberry, cedar and black-tea flavors on the palate. The finish is energetic and long, bringing whispers of earth, mushroom, cinnamon and orange peel. Hidden Gem. —T.R.C.
Steely in build, with etched acidity that focuses on vibrant cherry and guava flavors underlined with stony minerality and black tea tones as this gathers tension toward sleek tannins. Drink now through 2032. 4,670 cases made.
Keenly structured and tightly focused but polished, with cherry and pomegranate flavors accented by forest floor and dusky spices as this builds tension toward fine-grained tannins. Drink now through 2033. 524 cases made.
Rich, fleshy and handsomely structured, offering raspberry and dark cherry flavors laced with forest floor, clove and other dusky spices as this builds tension on the way to medium-grained tannins. Drink now through 2033. 272 cases made.
Raspberry, thyme and fennel pollen make for an engagingly delicate nose on this clonal study. The palate is more expansive, showing cranberry, bay leaf and citrus peel flavors that range from sharp to broad in expression. —M.K.
Deep, almost impenetrable ruby red colour. Mulberry, mocha and black olive tapenade aromatics. Rich and dense black and purple fruits fill the senses. It carries serious fruit intensity but as it builds we see layers of ferrous minerals and rosemary undertones. Good length with finely built tannins ensuring a dry finish. Still youthful, and cellaring will be well rewarded
Bright, deep purple colour; aromas of dark plum and blackberry with a slightly smoked-meaty reductive overtone. The wine is rich and deeply fruit-sweet on the palate. Blackberry conserve. Luscious fruit and abundant soft, powdery tannins.
A very fresh and vibrant wine from this obscure southern French variety. Aromas of lemon confit, orange blossoms and grapefruit rind. The palate is light- to medium-bodied with precise acidity, giving notes of lemon peel, ocean spray and oyster shells. Delicious. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
